About: Prior to the pandemic I practiced on the Westside on Mondays and T/W/Th in Mt. Tabor Neighborhood, SE PDX. Currently I am working exclusively via telehealth. Creating safety in the counseling relationship is my first priority. I focus on helping people say and feel what is personally important to them in a way that their partner can receive and connect with. This process is what allows us to feel safe, cared for, and deeply known by the other, and it is my passion to lead my clients into a deeper experience of intimate connection. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Oregon. My fee per 50 minute session is $140. I am able to work with most insurance plans that have an "out of network provider" option.

I am not judgmental or shaming. I feel my job is to work with you (and your partner) to actively work towards your goals and desires. I feel therapy should be a partnership where you should feel comfortable, and safe, to try new things as well as process past experiences. I enjoy thinking "outside the box". About: My approach to therapy is based on the belief that everyone has an innate capacity for healing and growth. As we adapt to life's challenges, however, we sometimes get stuck in long-term patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, or relating to others that ultimately limits our growth and leaves us feeling sad, lonely, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or fearful. I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify, understand, and change these patterns that keep them feeling stuck so that they can move towards a life and relationships that are more fulfilling and connected. I provide counseling for couples and individuals seeking help for a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, communication difficulties, affairs, difficulties with trust or intimacy, or difficult life transitions. I welcome clients with diverse backgrounds and identities. I have experience working with clients of all sexual orientations, genders, and relationship orientations including polyamory and other forms of consensual non-monogamy.

About: I am a Board-Certified Psychologist specializing in Couples Therapy with over a decade of expertise in EFT. My extensive training encompasses more than 400 hours in EFT, along with over 100 hours in related "attachment-based”, experiential models. Not only have I honed my skills through extensive training, but I've also played a role in fostering the professional growth of others. I've conducted nearly 250 hours of individual and group training for psychologists and therapists many approved for continuing education credits, at various workshops, conferences, and group and individual training sessions. Numerous individuals who sought individual supervision under my guidance have successfully attained certification in EFT in their own right. My practice extends beyond the confines of a physical office—I provide therapy for couples and individuals through video sessions, making my services accessible to those in cities such as Portland, Beaverton, Bend, Eugene, and Salem. I also provide intensive “private” couples weekends on selective dates. I was born and raised in Oregon but have lived and worked in various regions worldwide, including Africa and Europe. As a result, I have been fortunate to significantly enhance my capacity to perceive the world from others' perspectives, no matter how different they may seem to be. Before embarking on my psychology career, I held management roles at Fortune 50 companies. I have also worked as a Management Psychologist aiding professionals in their development. Beyond my professional pursuits, I find joy in skiing, photography, traveling and, most importantly, spending time with my family.

About: Most couples I work with are wrestling with some combination of anxiety, depression, anger, and being "stuck". In addition, they are sometimes struggling to figure out what is most meaningful and important with regard to being in a romantic relationship. With other couples, their goals and values may be clear, but they find themselves running into psychological barriers such as fear and avoidance. I truly believe that neither partner is to blame for their struggles as a couple. Instead, I place the blame clearly on the traps couples fall into; the cycles they unwittingly enact again and again as they see no other way out. My job is to shed light on how to emerge from these destructive cycles and my main tool is a predominantly emotional focus helping to unearth the feelings that each partner is unable or unwilling to communicate to the other. When couples are in this trap they often get little from the other that they can connect with, or warm to, in order to begin breaking the cycle. Most of our work will be to go underneath the defenses (such as criticism or withdrawal) we use to protect ourselves from pain and to realize that, ironically, these defenses have become the problem. We will be accessing the hurt, sadness, fear, shame and the desire for intimacy (as well as the opposing need for autonomy) that underlie the anger and "checking out" that often occur when you are both stuck.

About: Marriage and intimate relationships can grow to foster tremendous love and support or deteriorate into painful disappointment and heart break. Before a relationship breaks down it can be very helpful to understand the deeper meaning behind the fighting and withdrawal. To help couples return to previous states of happiness and fulfillment I practice Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). EFT is short term (typically 20-30 sessions), empirically validated treatment based on emotion and attachment theory. Research has shown that the EFT model that moves 70-75% of couples from distress to recovery & gains for months or years after treatment. Having done this work I feel that EFT also translates well into understanding the needs of children and would undoubtedly bolster the child-rearing skills for any parent. As a Certified EFT Therapist I have completed extensive training and supervision hours. During my time in San Francisco I was fortunate enough to train under some of the leaders of the EFT community including the EFT founder Dr. Susan Johnson, Certified EFT Trainers Dr. Sam Jinich, Dr. Rebecca Jorgenson, Dr. Mark Kaupp, and Certified EFT Supervisor Dr. Susan Glick. To further my expertise I continue to be in periodic supervision with Dr. Glick.

About: Most of my clients come to me because of experiences of anxiety, depression, and trauma that have led them to a desire to find new paths for themselves and their relationships. Often the couples I see struggle to feel close to one another as the inevitable stresses and changes in their lives become a barrier to the intimacy and connection that they are looking for. My clients, both as individuals and members of a couple, are often people who describe themselves as being “do-ers” who have difficulty slowing down to understand their internal experiences and why they do what they do. Much of my work in recent years has been with medical professionals, first responders, and veterans who have worked hard to manage and distance themselves from their emotional reactions because of the need to focus and perform in their work setting.

About: I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING COUPLES RECONNECT TO THEIR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. What could be more wonderful than helping couples discover that their love is stronger than their fears? Love wins! We just need help sometimes. I love what I get to do, and I feel very privileged to work with couples who place so much trust in me and this process. My practice is focused on counseling couples in distress. In our first session we will talk about what you're experiencing when you can't connect, and we'll develop a plan for getting you reconnected to each other with a new foundation established on safety, trust, and compassion for each other. Often couples begin counseling with little hope and lots of pain and distrust, but at the end find a deep respect and appreciation for one another. They even rediscover that they actually like each other! There is hope. My clinical training was in hospital chaplaincy. There I accompanied families through acute crises and chronic illnesses. I often worked with couples as they grieved losses from death or illness. Yet until recently the tools didn't exist to help couples recover from the deep hurt they caused each other. Over the last 20 years Les Greenberg, Sue Johnson, and others have done the clinical research to discover what works for couples in crises. These discoveries form the basis of EFT for couples. I have completed three levels of training in Emotion Focused Therapy for couples: the Externship, the advanced level called Core Skills, and then supervision. I have a PhD in theology from Emory University and am a Fulbright Scholar, doing my doctoral research at Heidelberg University, Germany; MDiv and a ThM from Princeton Theological Seminary. And I graduated from Whitworth University with a BA in English. My home town is Bend, OR.

About: Note: My practice is currently full. Couples work is my passion. My practice is focused on couples and relationship work because I believe that the quality of our relationships has a profound affect on us. When our relationships are strong and healthy they provide us the support and nourishment to be our best selves and brave life's challenges. However, when they are not, they not only deprive us of that strength but can be a great source of sadness and frustration. Luckily, relationships don't just work or not work. Instead, just as we can all get stuck in relationship sometimes, we can change relationships to make them more healthy and nurturing. When we get stuck in relationship it can feel small, like an uncertainty or staleness that weaves in and out of the relationship or it can feel large, like anxiety, sadness, or hopelessness that takes over every part of the relationship and makes it difficult to feel--or even remember feeling--anything else. Regardless of the intensity, when our relationships are not working, we could use help. Supervisor: Sharon Chatkupt Lee, Psy.D.

About: I work with adults and couples; people negotiating life difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, panic attacks, and life transitions; as well as individuals negotiating social and cultural bias with race, gender, LGBTIQ, and disability identities. I practice depth psychology, meaning that one’s whole life story is important when considering present difficulties, difficult relationships, or emotional discord. In knowing how our experiences have shaped us, we can bring healing to relational patterns that are not working, and find greater happiness in this life. In working with couples, I use the Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) model to assist in re-aligning relationships around open and responsive emotional exchange. When couples point fingers or dispute differences of opinion, they are doing the best they can. What is needed for healing, however, is a deepening of the emotional level of relating. Once couples develop this capacity, then they can begin to successfully work together to solve arguments and disagreements. As couples come to understand and experience improved emotional communication, they begin to enjoy more genuine feelings of connection, care, and love, and find a stronger relationship for handling future challenges.

About: Being resilient allows you to recover and adapt to difficult experiences. Instead of being overwhelmed, the resilient person is able to manage their strong feelings and impulses and communicate their concerns and needs. Resilience is not a trait that you either have or do not have. It involves behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that can be learned and developed in all of us. Couples who are resilient are open, attuned, and responsive to each other. They are able to recognize their deepest needs and longings, and risk reaching out to their partner to communicate and connect. My work involves primarily couples in all stages of relationship!

About: Tele-therapy for the apocalypse: specializing in anxieties, existential overwhelm, improving relationships and boundaries, exploration of identities (including: gender, sexuality, ability, race and ethnicity, career, and class), and I prioritize Queer/TGNC individuals and those impacted by systemic racism, misogyny, and socio-political issues. I work with people who consider themselves perfectionists, overthinkers, people-pleasers; loners, weirdos; people told they are "too difficult," "too sensitive," "too much;" those who want to connect with others but feel unable to due to past hurt or current negative narratives about themselves. As your therapist I combine my training in existential-humanistic orientations with cognitive-behavioral and emotionally-focused approaches. I work to create a space where clients can peer into The Void - knowing I am there to facilitate difficult emotions and revelations - and explore what prevents them from being their true, authentic selves. I look forward to working with people just trying to make sense of themselves and their patterns while also navigating :gestures broadly: all of this. I offer 100% virtual individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy for improving connection and relationships, and gender-affirming assessments and letters of readiness for medical intervention.

About: I work with both individuals and relationships. I most enjoy working with people who hold curiosity about their relational and sexual selves, and are interested in deconstructing the embedded social, cultural and familial narratives that can impede our wholeness in these areas. I tend to work with creatives, those in the LGBTQIA+ community, folks in non-traditional and non-monogamous relational orientations, and people in helping or healing professions. I believe that therapy can reveal important insights into our adaptations to trauma and attachment patterns and can guide us to more open-hearted connection and empowerment in our relationships and lives. As a therapist, I utilize a body-centered lens that guides clients through mindful exploration of their experience to access the ways we hold thoughts, beliefs, and patterns. Through this work, we are able to move towards embodiment and choice to create lasting change. In my work as a therapist, I primarily utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and attachment models and practice through mindful-experiential and somatic-based approaches.

About: Relationships can be tricky. Initially, we start relationships and experience this wonderful bond. Over the course of time, you can feel that bond rupturing in small ways, leaving you feeling stuck and not knowing how to get back to the love you once had. You still care about each other and don’t want lose the relationship, but at the same time you long for more out of the relationship. I love helping couples understand the patterns and dynamics that are the pitfalls for relationships. Often times with couples that are feeling stuck, I find that we are able to dig deeper into the anger and frustration to ultimately find hurt, fear, and loneliness. I help couples learn to recognize those deeper emotions so they can reach for their partner in a softer way. About: It is likely that if you're here now, you are in some kind of distress. It sometimes takes a lot to acknowledge that it's an important time to work to improve your quality of life or your relationships. In our busy day to day lives, sometimes it's hard to know where to focus or what to do to start feeling better. In intimate relationships this gets infinitely more complex because of the ways we perceive and interpret each other and how, or if we express our needs. It is so common to get caught up in painful negative patterns of interaction that seem impossible to rise above. The model I work in, Emotionally Focused Therapy, helps us to identify negative patterns and understand what fuels them. Once we acknowledge what is behind painful patterns of interaction, we are able to slow down and begin to replace them with new ways of interacting. I really value the strength of intimate relationships and I enjoy collaborating with couples to unravel the knots that have developed that block them from bringing out the best in each other. I enjoy working anywhere on the spectrum of relationship configuration, sexual orientation and gender identity. I also work with families considering or pursuing divorce to make this process as amicable as possible, and to help establish positive co-parenting relationships.

About: I work with couples from an EFT approach, and I work with individuals using Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy integrating other approaches based on the unique considerations of each person. Whether in relationship with your partner, your children, yourself, or others in your life, sometimes you get stuck in loops and can't seem to break free. Those loops may show up as relational conflict, anxiety, depression, addiction, or any number of frustrating or overwhelming issues. Working free of those cycles can be hard to do on your own, and my job is to partner with you in untangling the knots, making sense of it all, and helping you explore the path to where you’d rather be. I use a variety of methods for helping people reach for meaning, connection, and the life they’re hoping for. My approach is based in relationships, learning to recognize patterns and build new strategies for meeting needs, developing a way to make sense of yourself and your context, facing and accepting the difficult aspects of life, and understanding how bodies and brains impact how people function. I partner with people to incorporate their values, beliefs, backgrounds, needs, and expertise in their own lives into the process of growth, change, and connection that promote resilience, interdependence, and freedom in life and relationships.

Now, empowered by this powerful pathway to help couples, I work with all populations with an attachment and Emotionally Focus framework.
