More about my practice:
I am a Licensed Psychologist and Registered Nurse. As a seasoned clinician, I work with both individuals and couples who have a complex and broad range of issues. I use both Gestalt Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have had years of extensive training and experience in both modalities. I use these modalities because they are effective in helping people move away from confusion/chaos/pain towards health and well-being. They prioritize alliance and acceptance in the therapeutic relationship. I believe these are essential to creating lasting change. They take into consideration the complex nature of human beings. We are all emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational beings. I believe effective therapy needs to respect and integrate all of these parts of ourselves. As an EFT Supervisor, I work with EFT therapists, in person or on-line, to hone their EFT skills. I use a model that is isomorphic to EFT. Within this model, I work at various levels (e.g. alliance building, conceptualization, experiential, and self-of-therapist) depending of the therapist's interest and growing edge. For more information about my work as an EFT supervisor, please call or email me. I have completed additional training in how to help EFT therapists obtain certification. I have a private practice in Sellwood. I generally work Mondays through Wednesdays 7AM to 4PM.

More about my practice:
I am a holistic, mind/body, therapist. I do both brief solution focused therapy as well as long term depth psychotherapy. Although many use EFT for couple therapy, I find it valuable for the individuals I work with. My intuitive abilities and life experiences have given me invaluable insight and understanding of people from diverse cultures, sexual orientations, religions, ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic groups. Years of study in various types of psychotherapy, mind/body healing, and the arts have given me multiple tools from which to draw. These allow me to create a safe container for holding all the parts of you. I specialize in helping you heal the wounds of the past and build self-esteem and worth. Feeling empowered, your heart opens and you are able to love yourself and others.

More about my practice:
At Two Rivers Counseling, I offer a professional therapeutic approach for four different clientele: 1) couples in grief and loss 2) families experiencing difficulties 3) individuals suffering from traumatic experiences 4) men of all ages making tough life decisions As we sit in the nurturing environment of the therapy room or walk together along the tree-lined trails of Forest Park, we collaborate to identify the change you hope to make in your life. My approach to therapeutic change emphasizes the interconnections and secure attachments between people, the stories that we create for ourselves, and the mending of dysfunctional thought patterns. Grief and loss take on many forms. For some couples, they grieve the terminal illness or death of a child...for others, the longing to have a child, and the frustration of not being able to conceive. Some partners grieve the loss of a meaningful and trusting bond with their partner. I work with the Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy (EFCT) model to identify patterns of interaction, and sometimes emotional trauma, that have lead to insecure attachments between partners. I help them to identify and put into place, positive patterns of interaction that encourage each to turn toward each other, feeling safe, desired, and loved.

More about my practice:
It's an honor to work with individuals, couples, & families. I am passionate about relationships, holistic health and healing-with a belief that all the components of a person influence and are influenced by each other. Physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological, relational, sexual, and historical factors are all part of every interaction, and every challenge. I am comfortable having conversations with individuals and families about any of these aspects of their lives, even when they may feel they are not able to discuss in other contexts or with other people. My intention is to maintain an open, non judging stance and a collaborative spirit to help clients to feel safe to share with me and to explore what is holding them back from growing, in relationships, success, or personal growth. I work from a compassionate, hopeful, strengths based perspective. I earned a Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple and Family Therapy from George Fox University. My year long internship was in the family therapy department of a residential and outpatient addictions treatment facility. In private practice I'm honored to work with individual adults and adolescents, couples, and families. I have been fortunate to learn through my own journey how to come alongside another person on his or hers. I am honored that the families and individuals I work with entrust me with part of their journey.

I believe people do things for good reasons and I never tire of trying to understand. As an EFT Supervisor I want to help other therapists mature in the EFT model by understanding themselves and by developing their skills and talents. I have helped several therapists achieve certification. I also do ongoing consultation for therapists who are looking for support in their work.

More about my practice:
I believe that everyone wants to feel loved, appreciated & valued. I enjoy helping individuals and couples identify repeating lifelong patterns that prevent this from happening. Sometimes life can be confusing and frustrating and it can feel that you have tried everything to "fix" a feeling/situation/self belief and can end up feeling pretty hopeless though I can help you to identify your strengths, provide support and work with you so that you can lead the life you currently are dreaming about. I am not judgmental or shaming. I feel my job is to work with you (and your partner) to actively work towards your goals and desires. I feel therapy should be a partnership where you should feel comfortable, and safe, to try new things as well as process past experiences. I enjoy thinking "outside the box". If typical therapy session don't work for you for a variety of reasons I will work with you to help you get support.

More about my practice:
Couples work is my passion. My practice is focused on couples and relationship work because I believe that the quality of our relationships has a profound affect on us. When our relationships are strong and healthy they provide us the support and nourishment to be our best selves and brave life's challenges. However, when they are not, they not only deprive us of that strength but can be a great source of sadness and frustration. Luckily, relationships don't just work or not work. Instead, just as we can all get stuck in relationship sometimes, we can change relationships to make them more healthy and nurturing. When we get stuck in relationship it can feel small, like an uncertainty or staleness that weaves in and out of the relationship—or it can feel large, like anxiety, sadness, or hopelessness that takes over every part of the relationship and makes it difficult to feel--or even remember feeling--anything else. Regardless of the intensity, when our relationships are not working, we could use help. Supervisor: Rich Johnson, Ph.D.

I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. EFT is a research based therapy which aims to reduce distress in adult relationships, recognizing that trust, flexibility, connection and safety rely upon secure attachments to important people. As we adapt to life's challenges, however, we sometimes get stuck in long-term patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, or relating to others that ultimately limits our growth and leaves us feeling sad, lonely, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or fearful. I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify, understand, and change these patterns that keep them feeling stuck so that they can move towards a life and relationships that are more fulfilling and connected. I provide counseling for couples and individuals seeking help for a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, communication difficulties, affairs, difficulties with trust or intimacy, or difficult life transitions. I welcome clients with diverse backgrounds and identities. I have experience working with clients of all sexual orientations, genders, and relationship orientations including polyamory and other forms of consensual non-monogamy.

More about my practice:
I deeply value each person's humanity and strive to create an empathic, safe space to learn, grow, and experience new ways of being in relationship. I work from an attachment perspective which means I see a couple's struggles as between the partners and relational in nature rather than within an individual. In addition I help people to become more fully aware of themselves leading to change and healing in their lives and relationships. I welcome your questions and seek to collaborate with you to achieve your goals.

More about my practice:
It is likely that if you’re here now, you are in some kind of distress. It sometimes takes a lot to acknowledge that it’s an important time to work to improve your quality of life or your relationships. In our busy day to day lives, sometimes it’s hard to know where to focus or what to do to start feeling better. In intimate relationships this gets infinitely more complex because of the ways we perceive and interpret each other and how, or if we express our needs. It is so common to get caught up in painful negative patterns of interaction that seem impossible to rise above. The model I work in, Emotionally Focused Therapy, helps us to identify negative patterns and understand what fuels them. Once we acknowledge what is behind painful patterns of interaction, we are able to slow down and begin to replace them with new ways of interacting. I really value the strength of intimate relationships and I enjoy collaborating with couples to unravel the knots that have developed that block them from bringing out the best in each other. I enjoy working anywhere on the spectrum of relationship configuration, sexual orientation and gender identity. I also work with families considering or pursuing divorce to make this process as amicable as possible, and to help establish positive co-parenting relationships.

More about my practice:
I provide therapy for individuals and couples who wish to make changes in their lives and in their relationships that are long lasting and positive. I offer safe, compassionate and supportive counseling in an atmosphere of warm curiosity that deepens understanding and promotes healing. Together we will learn about patterns, triggers, negative thoughts and cycles, feelings, past and present attachment injuries, and how they affect the relationship. My style of therapy is active, positive, empathic and respectful of personal values and lifestyles.
In my work, I explore and validate each individual’s emotions and relational needs, and respond genuinely to them. I approach the therapy session as a healing place where a corrective emotional experience can happen, and it is that process that is the method of therapeutic change.

More about my practice:
Most couples I work with are wrestling with some combination of anxiety, depression, anger, and being “stuck”. In addition, they are sometimes struggling to figure out what is most meaningful and important with regard to being in a romantic relationship. With other couples, their goals and values may be clear, but they find themselves running into psychological barriers such as fear and avoidance. I truly believe that neither partner is to blame for their struggles as a couple. Instead, I place the blame clearly on the traps couples fall into; the cycles they unwittingly enact again and again as they see no other way out. My job is to shed light on how to emerge from these destructive cycles and my main tool is a predominantly emotional focus–helping to unearth the feelings that each partner is unable or unwilling to communicate to the other. When couples are in this trap they often get little from the other that they can connect with, or warm to, in order to begin breaking the cycle. Most of our work will be to go underneath the defenses (such as criticism or withdrawal) we use to protect ourselves from pain and to realize that, ironically, these defenses have become the problem. We will be accessing the hurt, sadness, fear, shame and the desire for intimacy (as well as the opposing need for autonomy) that underlie the anger and “checking out” that often occur when you are both stuck.

More about my practice:
Marriage and intimate relationships can grow to foster tremendous love and support or deteriorate into painful disappointment and heart break. Before a relationship breaks down it can be very helpful to understand the deeper meaning behind the fighting and withdrawal. To help couples return to previous states of happiness and fulfillment I practice Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). EFT is short term (typically 20-30 sessions), empirically validated treatment based on emotion and attachment theory. Research has shown that the EFT model that moves 70-75% of couples from distress to recovery & gains for months or years after treatment. Having done this work I feel that EFT also translates well into understanding the needs of children and would undoubtedly bolster the child-rearing skills for any parent. As a Certified EFT Therapist I have completed extensive training and supervision hours. During my time in San Francisco I was fortunate enough to train under some of the leaders of the EFT community including the EFT founder Dr. Susan Johnson, Certified EFT Trainers Dr. Sam Jinich, Dr. Rebecca Jorgenson, Dr. Mark Kaupp, and Certified EFT Supervisor Dr. Susan Glick. To further my expertise I continue to be in periodic supervision with Dr. Glick.

More about my practice:
I love working in the heart of the Mt. Tabor neighborhood, on the beautiful campus of Western Seminary. Creating safety in the counseling room is my first priority. I seek to provide a place where individuals and couples can begin to open up and learn to trust more deeply in their relationships and themselves. I focus on helping people say and feel what is personally important to them in a way that their partner can receive and connect with. This process is what allows us to feel safe, cared for, and deeply known by the other, and it is my passion to lead my clients into a deeper experience of intimate connection. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Oregon. My fee per 50 minute session is $100. I am able to work with most insurance plans that have an "out of network provider" option.

More about my practice:
Being resilient allows you to recover and adapt to difficult experiences. Instead of being overwhelmed, the resilient person is able to manage their strong feelings and impulses and communicate their concerns and needs. Resilience is not a trait that you either have or do not have. It involves behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that can be learned and developed in all of us. Couples who are resilient are open, attuned, and responsive to each other. They are able to recognize their deepest needs and longings, and risk reaching out to their partner to communicate and connect. My work involves primarily couples in all stages of relationship!
